which ever description you choose, both are correct. the songs on this album come at you like they’ve been shot from a gun of amazingness. such a full sound and each track makes an impact that’s hard to shake.

tracks 7 and 8 are my favourites and i love that they are next to each other on the album. i really wish that Rufus Wainwright would write a song like ‘Weep Themselves To Sleep’. i know he has it in him to do so. but JW has beaten him to it, and how glorious this victory is.

all in all, what i’m trying to say, is i love it. be seeing you in Sydney come July, Mr White!

here’s a funny story for you.

my mum had organised this gift for my birthday while i was away in America for the 3 months back in 2011, knowing it would arrive safely, without me seeing it and asking what it was she had mailed to her. funny part is, she forgot she had it. until last Monday.

she found it under her bed and was all excited, but then cross she had forgotten to give it to me on my birthday. luckily i told her it was ok, as this birthday lasts a month, and she still had a week to go. and this is what it is. an original Rolling Stone magazine from the month of May 1972, my birth year.

how awesome is this gift and how awesome is my mum???

while i was in Paris, i went to the Grand Palais to see the photography exhibition by Helmut Newton.

it was a really great collection and some of the photos were a little confronting but also comical. i really loved watching the video where Helmut talked about having a nap before a shoot, and seeing the images in his head while sleeping, then waking up and photographing what he had seen in his dreams.

i loved the story where the Editor of Vogue was pissed at him when he came back from an assignment and only handed in 2 rolls of film. she asked him where the rest of them were and he said something along the lines of; you’re only going to use one photo.

the other thing i loved what his attitude towards it all. he said he never photo-shopped his pictures, and he was never keen to have a big set up with lights and assistants.
